Airport clearing violates wetlands ordinance

Much of the controversy and frustration with the planned Wakulla County Airport improvements by residents in the area began after land adjacent to Surf Road was cleared and a sign was placed on the property letting people know it was the home of the new airport expansion.

That property is owned by Wakulla Airport Properties LLC, with Richard Shepard as its manager. Shepard had the 16 acres cleared because of safety reasons for the airport, he said. The land would be used for taxiways, he said.
