The 29th annual Big Bend Saltwater Classic Fishing Tournament has moved from Carrabelle to St. Marks, where it will be this Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17, at Shields Marina.
“We looked at where a lot of our participants were fishing out of, and a lot of them came from Wakulla and Tallahassee and South Georgia,” said Doug Saunders, chair of the tournament board. “So we decided that because the event is family-oriented, we wanted to make it where families could have more access to seeing their husbands, sons, daughters, aunts, cousins, uncles and everybody else weighing their fish.”
The tournament is expected to attract at least 1,400 participants.
Weigh stations will be held at Shields Marina and at The Moorings in Carrabelle. There will NOT be a weigh station in Port St. Joe, however, Gulf County is still open to anglers.
Prizes of $1,000 per category for First Place, and 10 categories of fish will be set. There will also be a Junior Division, Kids’ Casting Contest at weigh-in, a bouncy house, educational exhibits, and concessions.
