Winter storm is on the way

The Wakulla County Emergency Management Office released a winter storm warning for Wakulla County until noon on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

A Winter Storm Will Bring Ice & Snow To Areas From North Florida To Eastern North Carolina On Wednesday & From The Mid-Atlantic States To New England On Thursday: An area of low pressure is forecast to organize over the northern Bahamas late tonight and Wednesday morning and then rapidly strengthen into a very intense storm system as it moves to just east of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina late Wednesday night and then just east of Cape Cod Thursday evening before moving towards Nova Scotia on Friday. This storm will bring a ice and snow threat to a large area from north Florida northward to New England. So, let's get right into it.
Ice & Snow Is Expected From North Florida To Eastern North Carolina On Wednesday: As the area of low pressure strengthens late tonight and Wednesday east of Florida, it is expected to pull down enough cold air to cause freezing rain to occur across the eastern Florida Panhandle and inland parts of north Florida very late tonight through Wednesday morning. This freezing rain threat is expected to spread across southeastern Georgia during Wednesday morning with snow expected across southern and central Georgia throughout Wednesday morning. Ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch from the freezing rain is expected across the eastern Florida Panhandle, inland parts of north Florida and southeastern Georgia. In addition, up to 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation is expected on Wednesday morning across southern and central Georgia.
The ice accumulations on Wednesday morning will make for difficult travel conditions across the eastern Florida Panhandle, north Florida and southeastern Georgia. In addition, the snow accumulations on Wednesday morning across southern and central Georgia will lead to difficult travel conditions.
During Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night, accumulating snow is expected across southeastern South Carolina as well as across all of eastern North Carolina. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected with up to 4 inches forecast across northeastern North Carolina. Difficult travel conditions are expected across southeastern South Carolina and eastern North Carolina during Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night.
