  • Stephenie Matthews and Lawhon marry

    Stephenie Matthews of Tallahassee and Rob Lawhon of Tallahassee where married Nov. 15, 2008 at the Inn at Wildwood in Medart. Suzie Sadler, Notary Public, performed the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Ken Matthews of Sopchoppy and the late Elaine Matthews.

    The groom is the son of Mitchell and Pam Lawhon of Sopchoppy.

    The maid of honor was Sarah Hamilton of Crawfordville.

    The bridesmaids were Ann Barfield, of Tallahassee and Talana Dugger of Crawfordville.

  • Rotary welcomes member

    Becky Bergeron, President-Elect of the Wakulla County Rotary Club, announced that Richard Russell became the newest member of Rotary Thursday, Feb. 26. Richard manages the local Wal Mart Supercenter.

    Members of Rotary sponsor new members. Rotarian Marj Law sponsored Richard because he has been seen as furthering the object of Rotary: encouraging and fostering the ideal of service in personal, business, and community life with high ethical standards.

  • Wakulla Happenings 3.19

    Bike Tour

    The 2009 Bike Florida “Capitol Tour” will be making a stop in St. Marks. The 16th annual event runs from March 29 through April 4 and will visit Madison, Monticello and St. Marks. The 200 mile ride will include between 600 and 1,000 cyclists.

    The Wakulla County visit on April 2 includes visits to Wakulla Springs, kayaking on the St. Marks River, St. Marks Lighthouse and a tour of the state capital.

  • CHAT recognizes the efforts of animal volunteers

    I hope everyone enjoyed the St Paddy’s Day parade and the day at the park. Karen Frazey and all the CHAT gals worked very hard getting our float and booth ready for the parade.

    I guess we are shameful when it comes to showing off all the beautiful dogs and kitties that are at the Adoption Center. If you did not make your way to the Adoption Center last week, please visit us soon. Even if you don’t adopt, just taking an animal out of its kennel helps socialize them.

  • Colvin and Lovel exchange vows

    Priscilla Colvin of Crawfordville and Bradley Lovel of Crawfordville were married Saturday, Feb. 21 at Willow Pond in Monticello. Rev. Dennis Hall performed the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Marvin and Sarah Colvin of Crawfordville. The groom is the son of Kenny and Starlett Lovel of Crawfordville.

  • Couple plans to marry

    Shawn Culbertson and Evelina Schwoob of Sopchoppy announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Melissa Jean Culbertson of Sopchoppy, to Robert Brandon Strickland of Sopchoppy. He is the son of Robert and Regina Strickland of Sopchoppy.

    The bride-elect is a 2006 graduate of Wakulla High School and a cosmetologist at Salon Oxygen. Her fiance is a 2001 Wakulla High School graduate and a singer/songwriter.

    The wedding will be held Saturday, April 25 at 1:30 p.m. at Lafayette Park in Apalachicola.

     

  • Perry Festival set

    The Florida State Bluegrass Festival will be held Thursday through Sunday, April 2 through April 5 in Perry.

    If bluegrass music has stolen your heart, as it has so many others, The Florida State Bluegrass Festival in Perry should be on your calendar.

    Nominated by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) as one of the “Best Events of 2006” in the country, this extremely popular event promises four days of genuine toe-tapping bluegrass music delivered by performers from all over the United States.

  • NJROTC spruces up Wakulla County Courthouse

    What happened overnight at our courthouse? Did some do-gooder elves drop by? Who weeded the gardens? Who cut back the long grasses so they didn’t hang over the walkways?

    Who trimmed the hedges? Who pruned hanging branches?

    Who piled pine straw on gardens in front and in back?

    NJROTC cadets, led by Capt. Ron Huddleston and Lt. Mike Stewart, busied themselves after school hours, in another one of their many service projects. Service projects? Aren’t they in training?

  • CCOW helps WFSU fundraising

    Several members of CCOW answered the telephones and Wakulla County Commissioner Howard Kessler and Jack Levine were the on air at the recent fundraising drive for WFSU radio and NPR.

    “It was a great experience,” said Kessler. “We raised some money, talked up the good public radio does, and connected with some NPR listeners in the county.”

  • April Proclaimed Library Appreciation Month

    I am pleased to announce that the month of April has been proclaimed Library Appreciation Month! The Wakulla Board of County Commissioners approved this designation in a 5 to 0 vote at their meeting on April 7th. In doing so, they joined other communities around the State and Governor Charlie Crist who have proclaimed April as Library Appreciation Month.
