  • Eat a holiday meal

    “We understand that during the economic downturn we as a nation have found ourselves in, there may be a few of you who will find it hard to provide a warm Thanksgiving meal for you and possibly your family,” said Erin Pollard. “We would like to offer a warm Thanksgiving meal at Wakulla Springs Baptist Church. We ask nothing more of you than the opportunity to serve you and your family.”

    The church is located at 1391 Crawfordville Highway and the meal will be served at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26.

  • Storage business owners fell in love with Wakulla

    “We fell in love with Wakulla County,” said Bob and Debbie Poor, owners of State Park Boat, RV & Mini-Storage located one-quarter mile north of the Ochlockonee River State Park in Sopchoppy.

    The Poors moved from North Carolina where they were employed in the residential development and construction business.

  • Meet the Artists Night is scheduled

    Downtown Sopchoppy will offer another holiday shopping opportunity on Friday, Dec. 4 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Luminary bags will guide visitors to participating downtown businesses.

    Businesses will be open later and festively decorated for the holiday season offering complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Live ambient music, additional works will be exhibited, free door prizes, various discounts and onsite artists will be part of the event.

    Jason and Jared Lowe will be working together at Hamaknockers Barbecue in Crawfordville as co-managers. “Oh yes, both will claim to be the boss and yes, Candace and I will keep an eye on things,” said owner Jim Lowe.

    Jason worked at Hamaknockers from the time it opened until he attended Wyo-Tech Technical School and successfully completed the courses in Marine Technology. “Unfortunately, being a certified marine tech in today’s economy was a problem,” said Jim Lowe.

  • Capital City Bankers help teens get smart about credit

    Associates of Capital City Bank recently taught students at Wakulla High School about the importance of credit and using it wisely as part of National Get Smart About Credit Day, a financial literacy program sponsored by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation.

    The presentation was one of many being made by bankers across the country as part of a nationwide effort empowering young people to take charge of their personal finances.

  • Former Wakulla paramedic publishes good health book

    James Hilton, a former paramedic with the Wakulla ambulance service, has published a book titled, “The People’s Medicine: How to be Your Own Doctor” that recommends a vigorous daily walk, prayer, and common kitchen spices as a means of disease prevention.

    Hilton bills himself as “The People’s Paramedic,” is selling the book for $24.95 on his web site, hiltonbooks123.com. Other of Hilton’s books are also available.

  • Radical Restoration opens Panacea doors

    Radical Restoration Ministries, Inc. recently held an open house as it opened in Panacea across from the Funky Fiddler.

    Radical Restoration Ministries is a residential transition home for women under the leadership of Pastor Dawn Curlee.

    “This re-entry program is designed to rehabilitate women making the transition from various agencies back into society,” Curlee said. “We help them gain skills to become productive and independent individuals in our community.”
