  • DBPR launches survey

    TALLAHASSEE – This week is national Customer Service Week, and the state Department of Business and Professional Regulation is marking the occasion by asking customers to engage in the dialogue on how DBPR can improve customer service.
    DBPR has launched the “How did we serve you?” online survey for customers to provide feedback.

    The SBA Business Recovery Centers in Wakulla, Franklin and Gulf counties have closed.
    Face-to-face assistance for businesses affected by the Oil Spill is still available at the Small Business Recovery Center at 2500 Minnesota Avenue in Lynn Haven, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • 2-1-1 Big Bend offers oil spill distress helpline

    2-1-1 Big Bend, Inc. today launched the Oil Spill Distress Helpline to assist Florida residents impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
    The new helpline, (800) 985-5990, serves those struggling with stress, anger and resentment caused by the economic and psychological impact of the spill.
    Trained counselors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and calls are free and confidential.

  • Loan program is extended

    Gov. Charlie Crist recently extended the loan program for businesses in the seven western counties of the state, from Escambia to Franklin. This does not include Wakulla. Other counties in the state had until Oct. 1 to apply for a loan. Those other counties have until Oct. 27. The state has received 146 applications and has loaned to 125 business, totaling almost $3 million. Out of those awarded, 113 were in the panhandle.

  • Panacea businesses are frustrated with claims process

    Individuals and businesses waiting for their claims to be paid through the Gulf Coast Claims Facility are getting fed up.
    Government officials are echoing those same feelings.
    Many businesses haven’t heard anything in three months regarding their claims and in the meantime are struggling to stay afloat.
    In Panacea, these businesses have banded together to try and find a solution.
    Representatives from about 20 businesses in the area meet once a week to discuss their options.

  • What was Wakulla Bank…is now Centennial bank

    Wakulla County State Bank opened Oct. 1, 1974.
    Thirty-six years to the day, Wakulla Bank was closed by state regulators.
    In between, the bank represented a significant pillar of the community.
    The bank’s customers reflected on the friendly atmosphere and the commitment to the community’s organizations and events.

    A crowd of more than 40 people poured into the quaint liquor and gift shop in Ochlockonee Bay for the monthly networking event Thursday, Aug. 19.

    Guests were greeted by owner of Two Blondes Liquors and Gifts Nancy Matheny and adorned with a lei upon arriving at the shop, and then mingled with the crowd.
