  • Wakulla jobless rate up slightly

    Wakulla County’s unemployment rate was up slightly in November to 7.8 percent in November, from 7.7 percent in October and 7.2 percent in September, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation.

    Despite the increase, Wakulla had the third lowest jobless rate in the state. Of the 67 counties in Florida, only Liberty County at 6.1 percent and Monroe County at 7.3 percent were lower.

  • Census jobs are available

    The US Census Bureau is testing applicants for 2010 Census jobs. For testing locations and additional information call 1-866-861-2010 or visit the Census web site at 2010Censusjobs.gov.

    The 2010.census.gov web site Job Seekers link is live. This link gives job seekers the location and pay rate for LCO’s that are and will be opening across the country. This link can be found at the top right side of the screen in blue.

  • Business offers tax services

    Electrotax is proud to announce the grand opening for tax season.  A ribbon cutting was held on Nov. 24 with a terrific turnout. 

    “We are a locally owned family business owned by Gretchen Wild-Story, ERO,” she said. “My husband, David Wild, Office Data Manager, and I work all year to stay updated on all new tax changes and getting prepared for the tax season. “

    Gretchen and David Wild were both born and raised in the region and reside in Wakulla County. 

  • Chamber, county talk strategy

    Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce officials along with County Administrator Ben Pingree recently attended a strategic planning session in Crawfordville.

    Some of the issues raised included developing better relationships with county government as well as creating a downtown Crawfordville area and other planning issues.

    The discussion also focused on the performance of the Chamber of Commerce as it relates to the Tourist Development Council, taxpayers, businesses, county government, environmental organizations, the two cities in the county and the educational system.

  • Wakulla Bank, Big Bend Hospice raise money

    Wakulla Bank Vice President/CFO Susan Payne Turner and Community Relations Officer Jerry Evans delivered a donation to Pam Raker Albritton, Big Bend Hospice Community Resources Coordinator for the Wakulla/Franklin Team, and hospice advisory council member Becky Finch.

    Wakulla Bank sponsored the luncheon for the Wakulla County Advisory Council’s Big Bend Hospice Third Annual GolfTournament on Oct. 30 at Wildwood Country Club.

  • Capital City Bank is honored for community service

    A program aimed at inspiring employees to give back through public service already has exceeded expectations for Capital City Bank in its inaugural year, tallying more than 12,092 volunteer hours and meeting the goal after only six months, while receiving industry accolades for community outreach.

    CCB’s “Take it to 10” initiative, which requires that associates devote at least 10 hours to volunteer activities during the year, recently received an honorable mention at the first annual Southeast Community Bank “GIVE” Awards in Atlanta.

  • Broader Internet access available

    Residents and businesses in parts of St. Marks and Crawfordville now have expanded options for high-speed Internet service through CenturyLink, formerly Embarq. This expansion comes as part of a plan for increased network investment in the North Florida area, says Eric Miller, vice president and general manager for the region.

    “We are pleased to provide greater access to the Internet for individuals and organizations that have come to rely on it for information, entertainment, conducting business and connecting with their friends and families.”
