  • Students at RMS celebrate Arbor Day

    Students of Mr. Walker’s class at Riversprings Middle School planted two pear trees on school grounds to celebrate this year’s Arbor Day celebration and as part of their classroom garden.

    They were assisted by the Florida Forest Service’s Wakulla/ Franklin County Forester Daniel Stevens.

    On April 10, 1872, the first Arbor Day was held in Nebraska City, Neb., through the efforts of J. Sterling Morton. More than one million trees were planted in Nebraska during that Arbor Day.

  • Shadeville Art teacher receives grant

    Elena Myhre, art teacher at Shadeville Elementary School, received a grant of $500 from Envision Credit Union. She plans on using the funds to purchase a new kiln for her classes.

  • Teachers and employee of the month are announced

    January Teachers of the Month are Shadeville Elementary School’s Theresa Hernandez and Wakulla High School’s Ana Smith. The Employee of the Month is Facilities/Maintenance Department’s Josa Webster.

    Superintendent Bobby  Pearce and the Wakulla County School Board applaud the dedication these employees bring to the District, as well as the loyalty they display on behalf of the students, schools, the profession of education and communities they serve.

  • Tips to fight the flu

    Flu activity is being reported widespread across 47 states as of Jan. 5. This is an increase from 41 states in the previous week’s report.

    The CDC is recommending a 3-step approach this year to fighting influenza.

    1. Get a flu vaccination. This recommendation extends to everyone 6 months of age and older.  While there are may different flu viruses, a flu vaccine protects against the three viruses that research suggest will be the most common.

  • Free and reduced lunch now offered at Knowledge Tree

    Knowledge Tree Academy, 3240 Crawfordville Highway, has announced its participation in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child Care Food Program, a federally funded program that reimburses child care providers for serving nutritious meals and snacks to enrolled, eligible children.

    Meals will be available at no separate charge to all participants.

    Student artwork is on display at several locations around the county until May 2013.

  • Wakulla Middle School band has great fall semester

    The Wakulla Middle School band had a busy fall semester. The program of 175 members performed at many places around the county and also for the middle school student body.

    The sixth grade band had their premier performance in November and showed that they have great talent and potential for their musical future. They played an evening concert for family and friends at the middle school and then entertained the residents at Eden Springs Nursing and Rehab Center on a field trip performance.

  • Gia Liberto wins Lions Club poster contest

    Crawfordville Lions Club and Riversprings Middle School collaborated  in this years’ poster contest titled, Imagine Peace.

    Thirty-nine seventh graders created their rendition based on this theme.
