  • Shooting reflects the dangers of law enforcement

    As I see it

    By RODNEY BARRETO

Chairman, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation

    Commission

If you ask law enforcement officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) about their job, in the mix of describing what they do, they likely will say they love the work that they do.

Their work to protect natural resources is important and meaningful; they want to contribute to society and make their community, state and world a better place.

  • Rep. Bembry speaks out about new vehicle fees

    Editor, The News:

The Florida House of Representatives passed a transportation bill, CS/HB 5011, during the 2009 Legislative Session creating an $800 million fee/tax increase for the people of Florida.

Beginning Sept. 1, certain fees for driver license and motor vehicle services will significantly increase as a result of the Florida Legislature’s efforts to balance the state budget because of declining tax receipts due to the slowed economy.

  • Thanks for all of the assistance

    Editor, The News:

The Wakulla Pregnancy Center would like to thank the following churches and people for their help with our lawn maintenance this summer: Pioneer Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Crawfordville, Sopchoppy Southern Baptist, Wakulla Springs Baptist, Grace Baptist and our neighbors, the Brocks.

Mowing our lawn was no small chore, so we’d like to share our appreciation. These youth groups and church ministries worked together to help keep our center looking like a place that is welcoming to others Thanks again.

  • Stand firm, but be peaceful

    Editor, The News:

The impending health care reform is not a Democrat or Republican issue, it is an American issue that affects every American, no matter what party you are affiliated with.

As Americans, we have not only the right, but an obligation to question and hold our elected leaders accountable.

The facts are, this is not a bi-partisan agreement and I would even venture to say half of America’s citizens feel that this public health care “choice” is being forced on them.

  • Concerned over government health care

    Editor, The News:

The president’s plan for a government takeover of health care will cause many Americans to lose the private insurance they currently enjoy and interfere with decisions of care that belong between a doctor and patient. Any health care reform passed by Congress should strengthen a patient’s control of health care, not threaten it.

  • Thanks for support

    Editor, The News:

We the members of St. Nora Primitive Baptist Church wish to express our thanks to everyone who came out or prayed for us while we were doing our Men’s and Women’s Day Program.

Your generosity was overwhelming. Thanks for much.

    Pastor Eddie Lee Franklin,

    Chairperson Mae F. Baucham,

Chairpersons Nesea Grooms and Veronica Franklin

  • Frustrated by electrical services

    Editor, The News:

I just need to vent. For months now I have been working on a dream of mine. The whole project went fairly smoothly until I got down to the home stretch. Then one very large glitch happened. No power to my building.

  • Stand up for what’s right

    Editor, The News:

We must stand up for what is right. We must make the decisions to do right. The decisions we make are our own. We must think positive, not negative.

We are a nation of decent people and laws are made to be obeyed.

The people of Crawfordville must pray to keep out all storms. Prayers and faith will keep these vicious storms out of Florida. Keep our environment safe and free from environmental criminals. We will not become weak in the eyes of danger.

  • Republicans: Same tired tune

    Editor, The News:

Wouldn’t Republicans do better with something besides that tired and tiresome drivel of reaction? The 1970s song lyrics said it: so much resistance from behind! It may be all the party knows to do, but most people weren’t born yesterday. We know it’s canned material saved from their past attempts to thwart the great steps forward our good republic has been able to make.
