  • Quick response saved our home

    Editor, The News:

On Thursday, Jan. 21, lightning hit our home causing a fire. Thanks to the quick response of our Wakulla County firefighters, our home was saved with minimal damage.

All of these guys came to our rescue, braving the blowing, torrential rain and lightning.

I wish that I could thank all of you personally. You are all heroes!

I would also like to thank our Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office for their response and kindness. The 911 dispatcher who took my call, Talquin Electric and all of our friends and family.

  • Attack was not against RINOs

    Editor, The News:

I was shocked at Ed Brimner’s recent call for the “purging” of those who, in his opinion would be Republicans in Name Only (RINOs) in the local Republican Executive Committee. Make no mistake, the target of Mr. Brimer’s attack is not RINOs. It is Commissioner Howard Kessler.

  • We must not oil drill

    Editor, The News:

We must not allow oil drilling off of our Florida coast. It causes too much damage to the eastern seaboard considering tides, currents and storm surges that destroy the fisheries and clam beds.

Coastal flooding is also a threat to the environment from Key West to the upper part of Florida. This is bad for the state and people’s lives are at stake. We must not allow oil drilling.

  • We need to be more compassionate

    Editor, The News:

On Monday, Feb. 1 at 9:15 p.m., I was driving north on Highway 319 toward Bloxham Cutoff when I saw something white in the middle of the road. I slowed down and began to drive off to the right of the road when I saw a Walker hound that had been hit and was still alive.

The animal was injured so badly that it was unable to move itself off the yellow line of the road. While trying to get my vehicle turned around to go help, I called the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office to explain that there was a dog that had been hit but was still alive.

  • They offered great service

    Editor, The News:

I just wanted to let everyone know about a reasonable and honest auto mechanic and A/C specialist shop right here in Crawfordville, Faircloth Automotive.

A friend recommended Faircloth Automotive to get my A/C fixed last year. They were very reasonable and did a great job. Recently my daughter’s car was having problems and we could not figure out what was wrong.

  • Haiti coverage was wonderful

    Editor, The News:

Thank you so much for the wonderful coverage of Dr. Howard Kessler’s trip to Haiti. It is nice to see The Wakulla News post a very informative article about all that he has done for these disadvantaged people. Dr. Kessler was able to do what many of us would like to do – provide a valuable service – instead of just sending money or thinking about what needs to be done.

  • B.B. Hospice gives thanks to businesses

    Editor, The News:

  • Thank you for thinking about us

    Editor, The News:

The family of Willie Belle Akers wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the many individuals who called, visited, sent cards and flowers to our family.

Thanks to Minister Robert Murray of the Carrabelle Christian Center who officiated at the service. In addition, thank you to the Carrabelle Police Department for their traffic control and Bevis Funeral Home and Skip Young for their helpful direction in making the arrangements.

  • Pain returns to pump

    Editor, The News:

Consumers’ chronic pain at the pump is returning with gas prices 67 percent higher than a year ago and probably heading back toward $3 a gallon soon. While you can’t control the price of gas, you can control how much gas you burn by performing proper maintenance and how you drive. Performing simple and inexpensive maintenance can save as much as $1,200 per year in gas costs.

The Car Care Council offers these gas-saving maintenance and driving tips:

  • Farrington gave an informative program

    Editor, The News:

Thanks to local attorney Deirdre Farrington for a great and informative program regarding bankruptcies held at the Wakulla Library last week.

As auctioneers, in these difficult times we field questions regarding a multitude of money problems including bankruptcies.

Ms. Farrington’s program was very informative, aided by her PowerPoint program and handouts. The program generated good questions from the audience and helped us with additional information we can share with our clients.
