  • Get out and vote at Talquin Election

    Editor, The News:

By now Talquin Electric Cooperative members have received the official registration form for the annual meeting at Shanks Middle School on  Saturday morning, Sept. 26, which shows that I am one of two candidates for the District VII, Wakulla District seat on the Board of Trustees.

It is important that members realize that our bylaws do not allow voting by mail or proxy. Members must attend in order to vote. Voting is at the time of registration, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. with the meeting and many door prizes following.

  • Make a plan to Get Out and Stay Out

    Editor, The News:

As everyone knows, October is Fire Prevention Month and there are some things everyone should do.

If you do not have a fire escape plan you should establish one.

Everyone in the home should participate in forming an escape plan and then it should be practiced, “Get Out and Stay Out.”

  • We need a stop light

    Editor, The News:

The intersection in Medart is an accident waiting to happen. Folks from Sopchoppy wait for a long time to get on Highway 98.

They need a red light or at least a caution light placed somewhere there to help them.

In addition, Taff Curve into Crawfordville has two 45 mile per hour zones. Wouldn’t it be safer just to have the whole distance from Taff Curve to the Crawfordville 35 m.p.h. zone be a solid 45 m.p.h. Everyone would be safer and happier driving.

  • Smith Creek ignored

    Editor, The News:

The article says it all. The Smith Creek community has been ignored for many years. Even though we pay taxes just like everyone else in Wakulla County, our needs have been put aside so the influential people can receive favors and get their projects accomplished with no problems. For instance, paving subdivisions adding lights or paving roads that are already paved come first.

  • Thanks for support

    Editor, The News:

The family of Mary Dicks would like to say thank you for all the love and support we received last week.

What a caring community we have at Wakulla Station. Fire Chief Thomas and volunteer firefighters were of great help. The ladies at First Baptist Church who cooked food – Virginia Shalfer, Lou Smith, Inez Gouge and Charles Gouge oversaw the kitchen and worked all day making sure everyone was fed.

A special thanks to Savannah’s for all the food they cooked and sent over to the church.

  • WCSO deserves some good press

    Editor, The News:

Over the past year or more Wakulla County has had some bad press about the sheriff’s office. I thought it was time someone wrote about the kind of good people employed by our sheriff’s office.

On three separate very recent occasions we have had incidents when our local sheriff’s deputies have come to our assistance when it would have been just as easy for them to drive by.

  • Watch for propaganda in our schools

    Editor, The News:

Parents need to know what’s going on in one school in New Jersey.

Don’t let the progressive movement teach your children about tolerance, morals, greed, anti-Christian attitude, biased political views.

Stay in touch with your children’s teachers. Tell them in no uncertain terms how far they can go teaching your children.

You are the parent. The three R’s are appropriate, the rest is propaganda.

Otherwise, your child may come home singing Barack Hussein Obama.

  • Fishing at Wakulla Springs, sort of!

    Editor, The News:

I’m sure everyone knows that fishing is not allowed at Wakulla Springs State Park. And I’m sure any red-blooded fisherman (or fisherwoman) who has spent any time at the park wishes they had just one opportunity to wet a line there.

In my 16 years as Park Manager, as tempting as it was, I never fished within the park waters. But I frequently said that when I got close to the end of my career I might just break the rule once.

  • We are fed up

    Editor, The News:

We are fed up. We shall become a strong nation that will stand up to any threat. The power of prayer can conquer enemies dead in their tracks. We are the men, women, teenagers and children who are the ones who will lead this nation stronger than before. We are the nation of heroes and peace.

  • Sleep well with our fire protection

    Editor, The News:

Last month our home was struck by lightning and the gas line in our attic was struck. Luckily, my husband was home at the time and I was just a few miles away on East Ivan Road heading home.

We both called 911 at the same time to report the incident and by the time I arrived home, the fire department was also pulling up to the driveway.

They immediately went to work checking the house from top to bottom to ensure that there was no imminent danger or hidden fires brewing.
