  • Wrestlers to go to state...

    Six Wakulla War Eagle wrestlers will be attending the State Championships in Lakeland Feb. 19 through Feb. 21 at the Lakeland Center.

    Wakulla will take two regional champions from the competition in Bradford County. Coach John Wainwright said he is optimistic that his squad will do well in the final competition of the year.

    Clay County won the regional tournament while Wakulla placed second, Suwannee County finished third and Jacksonville Bolles placed fourth.

  • Softball girls rebound, win 3

    Coach Tom Graham’s Lady War Eagles spent the second week of the season winning their first district game, defeating a fastpitch powerhouse, and easily dispatching of a long-time rival. After losing their first two games of the season by a total of 2 runs, the team improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the district.

  • Baseball league moves forward

    The monthly business meeting of the Big Bend Baseball league was held Saturday, Feb. 14, at league headquarters in the Apalachee Restaurant in Bristol.

  • Awards presented

    On Friday, Feb. 20, the Wakulla boys junior varsity and varsity soccer teams gathered at First Baptist Church for their annual soccer banquet catered by Judy Bunch.

    JV Coaches Jim Posey and David Chadwell recognized the individual players presenting each with a T-shirt.

    Individual awards were presented to Chris Eichler for Defensive MVP; Daniel Burse for Offensive MVP; and, Matt Briggs for Team MVP.

    Manager awards were given to Georgia Danzy, Skyler Warren, Brittany Dybiec, Christina Mathis and Megan Posey.

  • Wakulla Sports Scene WHS...

    The Wakulla War Eagle and Lady War Eagle tennis teams got off to a fast start last week as Coach Theresa Harrell and Coach Noreen Britt led the squads to victories over Florida High and Taylor County.

    The War Eagles topped Florida High 4-3 and the Lady War Eagles beat Taylor 9-0.

    The War Eagles have an experienced team that lost only one regular player from 2008.

    Jared Lowe and Will Harvey play the first and second seeds respectively, but both players lost against Florida High. They also play first seeded doubles and lost to FHS.

  • Baseball team tops Leon in...

    The Wakulla War Eagle baseball team topped Leon before falling to Lincoln and Lynn Haven Mosley during the first week of the 2009 season.

    Wakulla had seven hits against Leon including three by Shay Barwick and two by Casey Eddinger. Robbie Coles and Ryan Smith added hits.

    Smith was the winning pitcher as he tossed four innings and gave up three hits and one run. He walked one and struck out six batters. Robbie Coles and Shay Barwick finished with three innings of relief. Barwick struck out one and Coles whiffed two batters.

  • Lady Eagles sweep four, win...

    The Wakulla Lady War Eagle softball team won a 12 team invitational tournament held in Tallahassee and hosted by Lincoln High School last week. The ladies went 4-0, defeating Baker Macclenny, West Nassau, Madison and Winter Park Trinity Prep. Wakulla ended up as the only undefeated team and improved their overall record to 11 - 3. They are 3-0 in district games.

  • Baseball team wins thriller over...

    A thrilling extra inning district victory over Tallahassee Godby was followed by two disappointments against Lynn Haven Mosley and Tallahassee Leon last week as Coach Mike Gauger’s baseball squad dropped two games in a row after an eight game winning streak.

    • Wakulla topped Godby 14-11 in 10 innings in a game that featured a seven run ninth inning by Wakulla, followed by a seven run bottom of the ninth response by Godby. Wakulla had a three run outburst in the top of the tenth inning to win.

  • Youth sports registration is...

    The Wakulla County Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a registration for “player pitch” baseball and a spring soccer season on Saturday, March 28 from 8 a.m. to noon.

    The player pitch baseball season is open to players ages 7 and 8.

    The player’s age determining date is by April 30, 2009.

    The fee is $45. The deadline for registration will be Saturday March 28.

    WHS Tennis

    Rain got in the way of the Wakulla War Eagles and Lady War Eagles as they planned to play Leon High last week. The matches were washed out and have not been rescheduled.

    The Lady War Eagles dropped a match against Florida High the next day. The Wakulla players competing against the Lady Seminoles included Jessie Mohr, Katy Parker, Kellie Graves, Shelby Bunce and Brittany Dybiec.
