Hurricane season is back

Despite being clever enough to organize a family evacuation for Irma in 2017 that took five adults, two teenagers, three dogs and three cats to an AirBnB in Vicksburg, Miss., to avoid that storm, for a variety of reasons involving stubbornness, optimism and work, no one in the family wanted to leave town last year during  Hurricane Michael.
That’s how three of us wound up Oct. 10 in a hurricane shelter in Gadsden County, and my parents sat at home a few miles away watching trees go down around them, all miraculously falling away from their house.
