Wakulla Springs river guide Don Gavin is dead

-A A +A
By Madeleine H. Carr

We had absolutely nothing in common. Our worlds could not have been further apart. Yet I grew to love his stories, love his laugh, and realized that both of us had a wicked sense of humor.
When Don Gavin told an audience the story of how the legend of Henry, the Pole Vaulting fish at Wakulla Springs came about, he had me in stitches. To say that an entire community is at a loss of what to make of the void this larger-than-life river boat captain has left is forgetting the legacy he represented.
