  • WCSO Deputy speaks to girl scouts about bicycle safety

    As part of Girl Scout Brownie troop 165 earning the sports and games try-it, they invited Deputy Carl Allen of the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office to come and speak about bicycle safety.  The girls had a great time and learned some valuable  skills to stay safe.  Deputy Allen also brought the girls new bicycle helmets.

  • UDC to hold meeting in Nov.

    Members, prospective members and guests of the R. Don McLeod Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) met on Oct. 13, at the home of Louise Thomas in Sopchoppy.
    The next meeting will be on Nov. 13 at 10:00 a.m., at the Wakulla County Public Library in Crawfordville. All ladies 16 years and older who has a Confederate ancestor are invited to attend. Please contact Elizabeth Smith, 962-2646, or Louise Thomas, 962-1945, for more information.

  • Reeds celebrate 50 years of marriage

    Bishop Walton and Minister Frances Reed celebrated 50 years of marital bliss on July 29. They were married on July 29, 1960, in Crawfordville. They are both retired.

    They have six children. They are Isisah Harvey, Sr. (Phyllis), of Crawfordville; Lilly Bradham (Willie) of Crawfordville; the late Walton Reed, Jr.; Eugene Reed of Sopchoppy; Blondie Bascom of Tallahassee; and Dewayne Reed of Sopchoppy. They have 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  

  • Pilands celebrate 30th wedding anniversary

    Walter and Paula Piland of Crawfordville celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on Oct. 11.

    He is the machine shop manager at Buddy’s Garage Inc. and Machine Shop. She is a paraprofessional at Wakulla Middle School.

    They have three children, Pam Barksdale of Crawfordville, Tammy Fleetwod of Thomasville, Ga., and Trey Piland of Crawfordville.

    They have six grandchildren, Jenna, Lauren, Amanda, Johnnie, Austin and Branden.

    They have two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Makenna Hurst.

  • Kemp to wed Morales

    Amanda Kemp and Bobby Morales, both of Crawfordville, announce their engagement.

    The bride-elect’s parents are Leita Kemp and Mike Kemp, both of Crawfordville.

    The groom-elect’s parents are Miguel and Julie Morales of Crawfordville.

    The bride-elect is a student at Wakulla High School.

    The groom-elect is a 2009 graduate of Wakulla High School and is in the U.S. Army stationed in Ft. Polk. La. He is currently awaiting deployment to Afghanistan.

  • Happy birthday Brandasia

    Brandasia Unique Timmons celebrated her first birthday on Oct. 11.

    Her mother is Christina Talley of Sopchoppy and her father is Brandon Timmons of Crawfordville.

    Her maternal grandparents are Tammy Talley of Sopchoppy, Homer Franklin of Sopchoppy and Kendal Shiver of Eastpoint.

    Her maternal great-grandparents are Linda Talley of Carrabelle, Jimmy Talley of Carrabelle, Jean Shiver of Eastpoint and Keneth Shiver of Eastpoint.

    Her paternal grandparents are Sandra Jones of Crawfordville and James Timmons of Crawfordville.

  • Morales is preparing for deployment

    PFC Bobby Morales is currently stationed at Ft. Polk, La., in the U.S. Army.

    He will be deploying to Afghanistan in one week and will be there for 12 months.

    He is son of Miguel and Julie Morales.

    Keep him and his family in your prayers and all soldiers that are serving our country. 

  • It’s a baby boy for the Harrells

    Greg and Lori Harrell of Sopchoppy announce the birth of their son, Grayson David, on Aug. 25.

    Grayson has an older sister Mattie.

    His maternal grandparents are Tommy and Melinda Lilliston of Waukeenah.

    His paternal grandparents are Barney and Diane Harrell of Sopchoppy.

  • It’s a boy for the Koons

    Perry and Tricia Koon, of Alachua, welcomed the birth of their son, Ethan James Koon, on Sept. 29 at 11:57 p.m.He weighed 9 pounds, one ounces. He joins sister Dilyn, 3, and Shelby, 1.

    His maternal grandparents are Harlan and Jeanette Chestnut of Crawfordville. His paternal grandparents are Perry and Beverly Koon of Williston. His great-grandparents are James and Lucy Johns, Nettie Anderson, and Jettie Koon.

    Olivia Grace Sloan, celebrated her first Birthday on Sept. 29.She is the daughter of Traci Sloan of Crawfordville.
